Overview

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NCE, Hassan offers quality education to all students and ensures that all skills as required by the industry in both Electronics hardware, software and IT development is offered to students. Electronics and Computer Engineering is that branch of Electronics Engineering that deals with the effects of electrons to build components, devices, systems, or equipment. The programme builds on the skills of each student in the design of complex software enabled electronic and microelectronic hardware systems.

Curriculum
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers 4 years (8 Semesters) B.E. course with an intake of 60 students. The department is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and laboratory facilities to conduct the course as per the University prescribed curriculum. Students also attend Workshops and Conferences conducted by different organizations. Students are taken on industry visits. The students also do internship in industry and gain real life industry experience.
The Department Association conducts a number of Co-curricular activities like Workshops, Invited Lectures and Technical Talks for the students. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions conducted by different institutions.The department runs a Wall Magazine where students share information on latest technologies. The department also brings out a News Letter where students and faculty publish articles related to civil engineering and related domains. Results are on the higher side. Most of the eligible students get placed on-campus as well as off-campus. The department strives for the all-round development of the students.

Program Outcomes (POs)
At the end of the B.E program, students are expected to have developed the following outcomes.
1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of need for sustainable development.
8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
9. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
11. Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):
1. PEO1: To produce competent graduates with ability to analyze, design, develop, and implement Electronics and Communication systems which are useful to the society.
2. PEO2: To make the students capable of managing their profession based on existing as well as new emerging technologies in the domain of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
3. PEO3: To deliver the course curriculum such that students will be able to exhibit professionalism, ethical attitude, communication skills, team work in their profession and to update themselves by engaging in life-long learning.
4. PEO4: To instill capacity in students to excel in professional career and/or higher education by acquiring knowledge in the field of Electronics and Communication.
Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs):
1. PSO1: Graduates will have the ability to apply the technology in the areas of Analog and Digital Systems Design adopting Internet of Things.
2. PSO2: Design and implement embedded system which involves hardware software co-design for signal processing and communication application.

Infrastructure
All lecture halls are furnished with Data Projectors and Internet facility. Computer Centers have machines with latest configuration. Necessary software are available. All the computers in the laboratory have Internet facility with a speed of 100 Mbps.

The department has all laboratories required as per the curriculum prescribed by the University. The laboratories are:

Research Center
The department has applied for the recognition of a Research Centerby the VTU where the students with Post-Graduation degree can pursue research leading to Ph.D. degree. The facilities in this center can be shared with anyone interested in doing research/ development
Electronics and Communication Engineering Faculty
The department has qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. Faculty members attend Workshops and Faculty Development Programmes to keep themselves updated with emerging technologies. A number of Workshops, Seminars and Invited lectures from experts from academia and industry are conducted in the department on cutting edge technologies for the benefit of the faculty and the students.
