Department of Civil Engineering
OVERVIEW

At NCE, the Department of Civil Engineering is spearheaded by a highly experienced Professor and backed by a team of well qualified and experienced faculty members. The Department organizes in periodical intervals and as per the requirement of the course Technical talks by experts from the industry and academia. These talks and interactions benefit the students in a large way. The Department also arranges technical visits which in turn benefit the student and offers him/her a practical knowledge of the course.
Vision
To become a highly reputed education and research center preparing globally competent Civil Engineers to meet the current and future challenges.
Mission
- To provide quality education emphasizing on emerging technologies through competent faculty and state-of-the-art resources
- To foster interaction with industry and institutes of higher learning
- To encourage research and entrepreneurship
- To inculcate professional ethics and social responsibilities
Curriculum
The Department of Civil Engineering at NCE offers 4 years (8 Semesters) B.E. course with an intake of 60 students. The department is equipped with all necessary infrastructure and laboratory facilities to conduct the course as per the University prescribed curriculum. The Department of Civil Engineering at NCE is equipped with facilities to undertake Research and Consultancy projects from Government and Private organizations. Many consultancy works like Soil testing, Material Testing like Concrete and Steel, Water analysis have been undertaken. This enables the students to get an exposure to the industry practices. The department association Techcon conducts a number of Co-curricular activities like Workshops, Invited Lectures, Site Visits, Technical Talks by students, Students are encouraged to participate in competitions conducted by various organizations. The department association runs a Wall Magazine where students share information on latest technologies. The department also brings out a News Letter where students and faculty publish articles related to civil engineering and related domains. Every year a Survey Camp is conducted for 10 days as a part of the curriculum where the students learn the techniques of surveying. Results are on the higher side. Most of the eligible students get placed on-campus as well as off-campus. The department strives for all-round development of the students.
PEOs and PSOs
Program Outcomes (POs)
At the end of the B.E program, students are expected to have developed the following outcomes.
1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of need for sustainable development.
8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
9. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
11. Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change
Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)
At the end of the B.E Civil Engineering program, the students are expected to have developed the following program specific outcomes.
PSO1 To implement the civil engineering knowledge and problem analysis skills to conceptualize, develop, and execute the civil engineering projects.
PSO2Cognizance of social awareness and environmental necessity along with ethical responsibility to have a successful career and to become an entrepreneur.
