The National Service Scheme is an Indian Government sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of
Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS. NSS was formally
launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhiji with an aim to
“inculcate the social welfare thoughts in the students, and to provide service to the society without any prejudice.”.
Every year, 24 September is celebrated as NSS Day with appropriate programmes and activities.
NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity.
Students under the NSS must put in 2 years of services along with their studies. Under the scheme, students must provide 120 hours of
service every year as well as participate in at least one special camp programme. NSS Service Certificate
contributes a good weightage to one’s curriculum-vitae.
NSS helps students to develop their personality by providing community service while they are studying.
It allows them to grow individually and also as a group. It makes them confident, develop leadership skills,
and gain knowledge about different people from different walks of life.
The NSS Unit of our College was launched on 24th September, 2016. Since the first day, the college has provided a lot of opportunities to
take up NSS activities not only within the campus but also outside the campus.
NSS volunteers take up activities such as Blood Donation, Cleanliness (Swachh Bharat), Planting, Children Education, and Awareness Programmes.
The belief that we must live for others is realized through the selfless service of the NSS volunteers who get into timely action for helping the needy people.
